Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Political crises have profound implications on governance and administration at all levels, including local government. In Nigeria, political instability and crises often manifest in violence, disruptions in service delivery, and the suspension or delay of development programs, all of which can undermine the effectiveness of local government administration. Gusau North Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State has experienced significant political instability in recent years due to the effects of insurgency, banditry, and local power struggles (Abubakar & Sule, 2024). These crises have not only disrupted local governance but have also contributed to the failure of numerous local government programs aimed at improving the lives of residents. The impact of political crises on local government administration in Gusau North LGA is complex, as it affects both the institutional capacity of local authorities and the trust that citizens have in their leaders. This study aims to examine how political crises have influenced local government administration in Gusau North LGA, with a focus on assessing their effects on governance, service delivery, and development outcomes.

Additionally, the insecurity and instability caused by these crises have hindered the local government from implementing key development programs, further exacerbating the challenges faced by the local population. The inability of local governments to maintain effective administrative structures during crises has raised concerns about the resilience of governance at the grassroots level. Thus, this study seeks to investigate the impact of political crises on the functioning and delivery of services by local government authorities in Gusau North LGA.
